Food Storage - Week 1

With the new year, my church has been encouraging its members to participate in a weekly food storage program. It's simple: every week, you buy something to add to your reserve, and by the end of the year you'll have enough food storage to live on for an entire year. Easy!

This program is calculated to feed one person for a year, so if you have a family, adjust accordingly! Also, keep in mind that in an emergency situation, you may be sharing your food with others. If financially able, it might be a good idea to purchase more than the recommended amount.

Without further ado, the food item for week 1 is:

  • 3 Pounds of Salt (per person)

This program won't cost more than a few dollars a week per person. Anyone should be able to afford it and I strongly encourage everyone to participate! Be Prepared!

A common excuse people use for not storing food is lack of space. Be creative; I'm sure there's somewhere in your house you can store a few cans of food. What about under your bed? Or that top shelf in the closet? Or that extra bedroom? Don't let lack of space stop you. I guarantee you'll find somewhere to store food if you just look around you.
